We have put together a short overview that will introduce you to the world of E Cigarettes and provide you with a better understanding of the product so you can make a better choice when it comes to making your Starter Kit purchase.
What is an Electronic Cigarette?
Effectively it’s a handheld vaporizer. A heating element heats a liquid and causes the liquid to evaporate. All electronic cigarettes worshare the same essential parts:
Cartridge or Tank: Holds the nicotine liquid
Atomizer/Heating Element: Turns the liquid into a vapour
Rechargeable Battery: Used to power the atomozier
There are a few different types of atomizers or heating elements. The most popular ones are: Clearomizers, Cartomizers and Atomizers. It doesn’t really matter of these your starter kit has, you can purchase the other style as replacement in the future and see what works best for you.
Most important thing when selecting a starter-kit?
The Battery is probably the most vital component. All other items have a significantly shorter lifespan and will require more frequent replacement.
So what do you need to look for in a battery when selecting a starter kit?
NUMBER 1)
The lifespan of the battery charge: the longer you can use the battery without a recharge the better. Most people like to start with a ‘cigarette looking’ battery because they are familiar but the trade off is a smaller charge. Be sure to get a Personal Charging Case (PPC) (Available on this website with the Joyetech E-Roll Starter Kit – €51.75 with liquid included) if you go with one of these, it will recharge your battery while you’re not using it.
NUMBER 2)
The EGO Series of Electronic Cigarettes. These contain bigger batteries (which last much longer) and Clearomizers, Atomizers or Cartomizers as the vapourizing device. They will not look like a cigarette, but they will normally produce a much stronger ‘hit’ of vapour when you use it. They are generally more robust than the smaller alternative mentioned above. You can browse our selection of EGO Series Starter Kits in our Starter Kits Section.
Are Clearomizers, Atomizers and Cartomizers refillable?
YES, All our Clearomizers, Atomizers and Cartomizers are refillable a number of times. It also makes the electronic cigarette a much more cost effective alternative to smoking. Refilling your E Cigarette with liquid yourself is easy and can keep costs down to less than €10 per month. We recommend that you keep some spare parts and extra liquid somewhere safe at home, just in case you lose some part of it, or a part breaks down.
Cartomizers and Atomizers do eventually burn out or deteriorate with use, so you will need to replace them from time to time. How long these parts will last will depend on how heavy a smoker you were, and how often you use your Electronic Cigarette.
What is the cigarette equivalent to a single fill for an Atomizer or Cartomizer?
This all depends on your own habits, how much liquid the Atomizer/Cartomizer can hold and how often you use your Electronic Cigarette.
Which Nicotine strength to get?
If you’re a 20 cigarette a day smoker, somewhere between 12mg and 24mg strength liquid should be about right. When choosing the strength of nicotine to use, you should try to go as low as you can while still enjoying a ‘throat hit’ strong enough to satisfy. You might need to try various liquids in the future to find the right strength and flavour for you.
Other Accessories
All Our Starter Kits will come with a USB Charger Cable & USB Adapter Plug. It is probably a good idea to have a few of these as spares at home just in case of accidental damage or loss. They are inexpensive at €7.50 for an EGO 510 connection charger cable and USB adapter plug combination.
Ohms Explained
If you’ve been looking at Clearomizers, Cartomizers, Atomizers, or DCTs you’ve probably seen the “ohms” rating or “Low Resistance (LR)” listed along side such products. Many of these items are available for sale in various ohm ratings. If you’re new to electronic cigarettes may this may cause some confusion when you’re just looking to order replacement Atomizers or Cartomizer
In layman terms ohms is a measurement of electrical resistance or how freely electricity is able to travel through something.
Ohms can also be represented using the following symbol Ω.
All our standard EGO Series battery’s output is 3.7 Volts.
If you were to place a 1.8 ohm rated Cartomizer on a 3.7 V Battery you will get a nice hit of warm vapour.
If you attach a Cartomizer with a 1.5 ohm rating the throat hit will be stronger, but the Cartomizer will not last as long as the 1.8 ohm Cartomizer.
If you were to attach a 2.2 ohm rated Cartomizer you will not get as strong a ‘throat hit’ as it restricts the heating element inside all E-Cigarettes to a lower temperature, but the Cartomizer will last longer than the 1.5 ohm and the 1.8 ohm.
