about ecigsElectronic Cigarettes are the Healthier Alternative to harmful tobacco cigarettes. The way the work is very simple, a coil heats up and vaporizes a liquid, which depending on the users preferences, either contains or does not contain nicotine. The user then inhales the vapour produced, and feels the ‘throat hit’ sensation of smoking, without harmful side effects.

Health Impact

There are no carcinogens in electronic cigarettes, and nothing in tham that you are probably not consuming already in a fizzy soft drink, or frozen ‘ready meal’. We have only had good feedback regarding the health benefits of switching to electronic cigarettes from our customers, and no test has found anything harmful in them. We use E-Cigarettes ourselves, so we have researched all we could to find out the effects of using them.

Electronic Cigarette Cost

The cost of using an Electronic Cigarette compared to other tobacco products is very low. A typical smoker of 20 cigarettes per day, will spend roughly €180 – €260 per year on their electronic cigarette compared to over €3500 on tobacco products. You will save thousands of Euro’s every year by quitting smoking.

Legality

Electronic Cigarettes are legal in Ireland, and if you ask your Doctor, you will find that they will recommend you switch to electronic cigarettes.

History in Ireland & U.S.

In 2011, the Irish Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland briefly withdrew electronic cigarettes from their partners stores across Ireland, before ultimately deciding that they were far healthier than tobacco cigarettes. In the United States too, they were withdrawn from shelves across America while the Federal Drug Administration carried out their own research into the effects of using them. The F.D.A. also found that they produced no significant side effects and allowed them back on sale in shops across America.

There have been a number of news segments on T.V., radio and in newspapers about E-Cigarettes, and a lot of claims have been made and questions asked about their effectiveness and safety. In our opinion the arguments against E-Cigs is based in ignorance. Politicians, and ‘learned’ guests have been wheeled out to argue that there is insufficient testing and no-one knows the long term effects of using them. We would argue that there have been a number of tests done on E-Cigarettes and none have found them to be any more harmful than drinking a can of Coke or eating a frozen processed meal. In America in 2010, the F.D.A. ordered the removal of E-Cigarettes from shops across the country while they tested their safety. 12 months later, having found them to be immeasurably safer than regular tobacco cigarettes, they allowed them back on shop shelves for the public to enjoy. Another argument has been that they ‘normalise smoking’. We would argue that by not providing an healthy alternative to smoking that actually works in getting smokers to quit, the number of people actually smoking would be higher and that would have a much larger negative impact on how smoking is viewed by impressionable children and young adults. We are all for regulation of E-Cigarettes to prevent the copycat E-Cigs (which adhere to no safe standard of manufacturing) being sold.

Our Opinion

Obviously not smoking and not using an E-Cigarette is the ultimate goal for all of our customers and we aim to help you achieve that. There are people who plan using E-Cigarettes long term, swapping cigarettes for E-Cigarettes instead. No data exists on the effects of using E-Cigarettes long term, but there is no indication from the initial short term testing carried out by independent institutions that it will be any worse for you than drinking a fizzy soft drink per day.
